The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a Phelps woman who was killed this morning when her car pulled across a railroad crossing in front of a CSX freight train.
According to deputies, 52-year-old Heidi Sevor was alone in the car at about 7:15 this morning when she stopped at the crossing in Palmyra, then drove into the train's path. The freight was pulling more than 80 cars and shoved her car more than half-a-mile down the tracks before it could stop. Sevor was killed in the crash.
The sheriff says no faults were found with the crossing gate or warning devices. Their investigation is continuing.
