Minister and Activist Vernice Warfield Dies at the Age of 102

Civic leaders in Rochester are mourning minister and activist Vernice Warfield.

She died at home at the age of 102. Reverend Warfield was one of the first African-American students at the University of Rochester. She helped launch the Urban League of Rochester, and the activist group FIGHT during the 1960s.

Mayor Warren said in a statement, “Her legacy lives on through the thousands of lives she touched, the children she fought for, the men and women of color she mentored, and the parishioners who found peace and inspiration through her weekly services."
