Legislation Proposed to Hold Absentee Landlords Accountable

Mayor Warren is proposing legislation to reduce the harm she says is done to neighborhoods by nuisance properties owned by absentee landlords. City Councilwoman Jackie Ortiz says the legislation would require City property owners, especially those that are out-of-town companies,  to identify a local contact for issues that arise at their properties. If an owner lives outside the Rochester area, they will have to designate someone who resides within Monroe County as their point of contact.  The legislation also requires owners to provide a public business phone number. City Council is due to vote on the proposal next week. City Building and Code Inspector Gary Kirkmire says the main point is to have a local contact for each piece of property.
