Geva Pushes Back Against Proposed Parcel 5 Theater

Rochester's Geva Theatre Centre has concerns about the plan for a downtown Performing Arts Center. Geva says the mayor's office ignored its request last fall for for a full Regional Impact Study of the proposal. Geva sent a memorandum last week to City Council members outlining its concerns and questions. Artistic Director of Geva, Mark Cuddy, questioned if the theater could actually fit on the site and what the theater’s impact on existing venues would be. The proposed $85 million performing arts center would be built for the Rochester Broadway Theatre League on the former Midtown Plaza site. The RBTL says the center could operate with a surplus, but that would come entirely from a share of parking revenue in the Midtown garage.
