Former State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver's Retrial on Hold

The retrial of former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is being put on hold.

He is trying to get the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out his corruption case, so he's been granted a request to delay his second trial.

Prosecutors called Silver's request a cynical "delay tactic" and suggest he's banking on witnesses and evidence to be lost.  They note one witness who testified at Silver's trial is 81-years-old.

Silver was sentenced to twelve years behind bars for bribery.  But last month, an appeals court overturned the conviction.
