Republicans in the New York state Senate are introducing a bill to help those affected by this year's record floods on Lake Ontario, Lake Erie and the St. Lawrence River.
The bill creates a $55 million Great Lakes Flood Recovery Grant Program to help property owners, businesses, farms, nonprofits, and local governments.
The lawmakers say the bill is modeled after the successful program implemented after the flooding from storms Irene and Lee in 2011.
Homeowners could get grants up to $15,000. Small businesses and farms could get up to $50,000. Local governments could get up to $1 million.
