Rodney McFarland's 2003 Murder Conviction Overturned

The murder conviction of a Rochester man has been thrown out.

An appeals court overturned the 2003 murder conviction of Rodney McFarland.

McFarland has served 14 years of a 25-years-to-life sentence for the fatal shooting of Serrell Bennett on a porch on Arnett Boulevard.

A man who's behind bars confessed to the crime. A lower court considered that testimony unreliable, but the appeals court says it should have been presented at McFarland's trial. Prosecutors say they intend to retry McFarland.
