Governor Cuomo is directing an investigation into RG&E and NYSEG’s preparation for, and response to the windstorm of 2017, that left more than 100 thousand people without power.
As part of the investigation the New York State Department of Public Service will be holding four public hearings to let residents voice their opinions regarding the response of their utility companies.
Following Superstorm Sandy, Governor Cuomo directed the Department and the Public Service Commission, otherwise known as PSC, to strengthen their oversight of utilities under a new law that took effect in 2013.
Utilities are now required to develop comprehensive storm response plans that are approved annually by the PSC. The PSC approved RG&E’s and NYSEG’s plans last year.
