Upstate Mayors Urge Approval of Ride Sharing Bill

Nine Upstate mayors...including Rochester's Mayor Lovely Warren...have written to Governor Cuomo urging passage of the ridesharing bill...to allow Uber and Lyft to operate statewide.

The mayors say each of their communities needs more transportation options, and ridesharing will benefit the local economies and solve many of their transportation challenges. Governor Cuomo has made approving ridesharing apps upstate a part of his annual legislative program.

A bill easily passed the State Senate in February, but remains bogged down in the Assembly over insurance requirements, driver security checks and other concerns.

Business groups and law enforcement are lobbying hard for the bill, Taxi and livery companies have been fighting it.
