Researchers at RIT say there may be some important take-aways from the homicide numbers in Rochester and other cities.
Their analysis says social conditions are a factor in urban violence. And they say Rochester's concentrated poverty is one of the leading predictors of homicides and violence. And they say interventions that target high-risk offenders can be effective strategies against violence.
There were 42 homicides in the city last year -- a 30 percent increase from the year before. The researchers, however, say such a fluctuation is common.
