Windstorm 2019 in WNY; Ice Tsunami in Buffalo, Tractor Tipped, Wires Down

The high wind warning is in effect locally until 10 a.m Monday

The highest gust recorded yesterday at the Rochester airport was 66 mph. A gust of 74 was recorded in Batavia, and similar gusts hit the Buffalo and Niagara Falls area.

As of 3 a.m., more than 5,800 homes and businesses were without power in the counties around Rochester -- stretching from Genesee to Yates counties.

Trees brought down power lines in the city and the suburbs -- especially when some of the hardest gusts rolled through late yesterday afternoon.

At the Rochester Airport, all but one of the departing flights until 8 a.m. Monday are canceled. That other flight is delayed until late morning.

Empty tractor trailers are still banned on the Thruway from the Pennsylvania State Line to Utica.

Monroe, Livingston and some other area counties still have travel advisories.

Governor Cuomo has activated an additional 150 members of the National Guard to be on hand to help if there are power disruptions or emergencies across the state
