Buffalo, N.Y. — Two men accused of killing a New York concert violinist during a robbery in her rural home are due in federal court.
Jonathan Conklin and Charles Sanford are scheduled to appear for detention hearings Thursday in Buffalo, where they have been charged with stealing property and taking it across state lines, and carjacking.
Police say the men fatally shot 61-year-old Mary Whitaker at her home in the Chautauqua County town of Westfield Aug. 20 and then stole her car and drove to Erie, Pennsylvania, where they were arrested.
A grand jury will consider murder charges.
Whitaker, of Manhattan, had just finished the summer season with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. She performed the rest of the year with the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra.
