UPDATE: Alleged Dog Shooter Charged By RPD With Assault

Rochester, N.Y. – Rochester Police have charged the same Hamlin that shot a dog, trying to shoot a person in the Town of Sweden with assault.

23-year-old Phillip Dodson is now charged with felony Assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Dodson was arrested when he was stopped by police on 531 at Elmgrove Road and found with the handgun police believe was used in the shooting on Sweden Walker Road.

Dodson was arraigned in Sweden Town Court on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He remains in the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or bond.

Hamlin, N.Y. - Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Hamlin man Friday after he apparently shot a dog while trying to shoot a person.

Phillip Dodson, 23, was arrested after deputies said he fired several shots from a handgun into a house on Sweden Walker Road, intending to hit a person.

The family dog was shot instead.

A short time later, deputies located Dodson's vehicle driving down Route 531 at Elmgrove Road and took Dodson into custody. A handgun was found in the vehicle.

Dodson was arraigned in Sweden Town Court on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He remains in the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or bond.

Additional charges will be filed against Dodson by the Rochester Police Department for a shooting that occurred in the City of Rochester a couple of weeks ago.
