(13WHAM) Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester Police will add patrols at Ontario Beach Park for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

In past years, there were large crowds and some fighting at the beach during the holiday weekend.

Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard said his department is also monitoring social media to help determine if there could be trouble.

He is appealing to the community and parents for help to prevent violence this coming weekend.

“We can't just wait until we get something on Facebook,” said Sheppard. “We have to take care of business. The Rochester community has to stand up. Parents need to be with their kids,
you can't just send your kids to venues and expect police to be the parents.”
