LONSBERRY: Hearings and Jan 6 Rioters Have Something in Common

The Democrat hearings into the violence at the Capitol on January 6 are dishonorable and partisan.

Their lone purpose is to exploit a national tragedy for political gain.

And the events of that day were a national tragedy.

The Capitol of our nation, the temple of our democracy, was left unprotected, and desecrated by those mouthing patriotic slogans they clearly didn’t understand.

That’s what should be being investigated: How could that building be so poorly and inadequately protected? How could the speaker or the sergeant at arms or the Military District of Washington not have the in-place capability to secure the United States Capitol?

How weak are we when we are not even strong in our stronghold?

That needs to be investigated, so that it can never happen again. And plans, real plans, need to be developed and implemented to never again allow our Capitol to be vulnerable for even a moment.

When every soldier or sailor is taught to guard everything within the limits of his post, how can the leaders of our government not protect their post?

And how can anyone pretend that assaulting the temple of our liberty is anything other than treason?

This matter has sadly been twisted into partisan politics. Democrats denounce it as an insurrection, and cite it as justification for their claim that conservatives are domestic terrorists who must be watched closely by the government. Republicans, for their part, are slow to criticize the rioters for fear of upsetting Donald Trump or his supporters.

And that’s all bull crap, on both sides.

The only difference is that the Democrats have the power and agencies of the federal government at their disposal, and have weaponized them to push conservatives from the public square.

Which is an act of treason just as sinister as storming the Capitol.

Because both are a violation of the Constitution. Both are threats to our Republic. Both are intimations of tyranny.

The rioters sought to use intimidation and disruption. The Democrats are using government power and resources. Both are trying to suppress the will of others, and subvert the very nature of the American Republic.

And here’s how they both should be dealt with.

The rioters should have been met with violent force as they crossed the threshold of the Capitol. You break into my house, you meet a shotgun. You break into the people’s house, you meet an M60. Period. If you desecrate the Capitol of a country noble men and women have died to establish and defend, you deserve what you get.

And if that’s your ass rotting in a traitor’s grave, so be it.

The Democrat politicians deserve to be thrown out of office. The Democrats control every part of the federal government, and are using it suppress the freedom of others. They deserve to be recognize for who they are and to be rejected at the ballot box.

There can be no tolerance for people who try to throw off the processes of our Constitution or disrupt the function of our representative government.

Just as there can be no tolerance for people who use government agencies to investigate, harass or prosecute their political rivals. Or who turn select committees into conspirators in a propaganda war against political opponents.

These hearings are a witch hunt against conservatives, part of the progressives’ efforts to criminalize dissent. They want to use force of law to persecute Americans who don’t support their politics.

And they will be so busy pretending to be outraged by the threat of others to our democracy that they will be blind to their own threat to American freedom.

The fact is, our Capitol was stormed. It was stormed by idiots who violated the Constitution. But it is filled most days with other idiots, who also violate the Constitution. Some idiots wear MAGA hats, other idiots wear congressional pins. Both are a threat to our democracy.

               But the threat isn’t equal.

While the traitors who stormed the Capitol were an offense to our sensitivities, but not a threat to our freedoms, the traitors with the fancy offices and titles are a threat to our freedoms – all day, every day. They foster cynicism, they turn federal agencies against us, they restrict our freedoms and expand government power.

The rioters pissed us off, and hurt our honor.

But the people who control the federal government right now are the real threat to liberty. Their socialist, progressive worldview is the enemy of freedom.

They ought to hold hearings on that.
