A prominent local neurosurgeon and his family have been killed in a plane crash near Albany.
Rochester Regional Health confirms Dr. Michael Groff, along with his wife, son, daughter, and 2 others, were killed when a twin-engine plane went down Saturday afternoon.
Investigators say the plane crashed just before it was set to land at Columbia County airport.
NTSB spokesman Todd Inman says it's not clear yet if weather was a factor in the crash.
In a statement, RRH says Groff's contributions were immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Rochester Regional Health is deeply saddened to confirm the death of Michael Groff, MD, Executive Medical Director of Neurosciences, who passed away as a result of a plane crash that occurred on Saturday, April 12, in Columbia County, New York.
Dr. Groff was a highly respected neurosurgeon and physician leader known for his clinical excellence, compassionate care, and unwavering commitment to advancing the field of neuroscience. His contributions to our health system and to the health patients he served were immeasurable.
We are in contact with Dr. Groff’s family and ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.
