UPDATE: Rochester police have released new details about what sounded like a real-life version of Grand Theft Auto that ended in the death of an elderly man.
92-year-old Thomas Chase was killed when a stolen car crashed into his near Elmwood Avenue in Brighton.
Police Chief David Smith says Chase was a beloved volunteer in the community.
The 17-year-old driver who hit him is on parole for burglary, in a string of smash-and-grab break-ins.
Officers checking on a report of gunfire yesterday spotted a teen driving away in a stolen car.
The car crashed, there was a foot chase, and the teen and two others got into a second stolen car and drove off, nearly running down an officer.
As they were pursued into Brighton, the teen driver crashed into a turning car near Elmwood Avenue, killing Chase.
The teens remain in the hospital.
There's no word yet on the charges against them.

A man has been killed in a crash following a stolen car chase in Brighton.
Police say a 13-year-old crashed one stolen car on Moriah Street.
He then jumped into another stolen car with two teens, and that car led a chase into Brighton, before plowing into a car turning left near East, Elmwood, and Linden avenues.
A man in the other car was killed.
The three teens in the stolen car are in the hospital, but all are expected to survive.
