Rochester City Council Will Discuss a Community Ambassadors Program Tonight

Rochester City Council members could get an earful tonight from critics of the proposed community ambassadors program.

Downtown ambassadors would guide visitors to restaurants and attractions and ambassadors in the North Clinton and Jefferson avenue neighborhoods would steer people to social services.

The critics oppose using tax dollars for the downtown program, which is part of a larger plan for a so-called Business Improvement District.

The critics say the district will mean higher rents and benefit developers.

A council vote on the ambassadors program is set for next week.
