Rochester Gas and Electric and New York State Electric & Gas are paring back their proposed rate hikes, but only slightly.
Parent company Avangrid submitted a proposed rate settlement case.
It's expected the average customer would see a $10 per month increase in their bills.
CEO Trish Nilson says the original proposal called for a 22% hike.
The utility companies say the money would pay for aging infrastructure repairs and better customer service.
The state Public Service Commission still needs to sign off on the increases.
