Investigators are working to determine what went wrong when an experimental airplane crashed Sunday afternoon in a pasture in Orleans County.
The crash killed the pilot, Earl Luce Jr. of Brockport, and passenger Morris Wortman of Rochester.
Both men were in their 70s.
The sheriff's office says it appears the plane broke apart in the air. The wings were found in an orchard a half-mile from the crash scene in the town of Ridgeway.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Sheriff's office are investigating.
