Vote to Withhold State Aid From Schools With Indigenous Mascots Held Today

The state Board of Regents is expected today to vote to withhold state aid from schools that don't change Native American mascots and team names.

A hearing on the issue began yesterday.

As of last year, around 60 districts were still using names and images based on indigenous culture.

The state policy allows districts to keep the images if approved by the state's tribal nations -- but some nations say they won't grant that permission.
