City to Begin Restoration Efforts of Fredrick Douglas Statues

Statues commemorating Rochester's most famous resident will be restored and relocated.

Fourteen statues were created in 2018 as part of the “Year of Douglass” bicentennial commemoration.

But several of them have been vandalized since.

The city has acquired ten of the statues, and original artist Olivia Kim will restore them.

Once that happens, the statues will be moved to indoor locations, like City Hall and the Aqueduct Building, to protect them from the elements.
