Rochester Man Convicted in Murder of Grocery Store Owner

A Rochester man is found guilty of the death of a popular grocery store owner about two years ago.

29-year-old Alexander Laureano has been found guilty of murder, manslaughter, and robbery.

Prosecutors say he and Gilberto Rivera killed 34-year-old Ethiopian immigrant Chernet "Chappa" Tirunet at Chappa's Groceries on Grand Avenue in April 2020.

Laureano will be sentenced in May.

Rivera is still facing charges.
