NY Lawmakers Approve New Congressional District Lines

Albany, NY -- The state Senate and Assembly have approved the new congressional district maps the legislature drew this week.

The maps were drawn by Democrats in the majority in both chambers after a bipartisan commission failed to reach a consensus on maps last week.

The congressional map would create a new 24th District wrapping around the Lake Ontario counties from the Niagara River to the Thousand Islands. Most of Monroe -- and part of Ontario -- would be in the 25th.

Republicans are considering challenging the new congressional maps in court.

The lawmakers could approve the new state legislative district maps Thursday.
