Rochester To Test Guaranteed Basic Income Program

Rochester, NY -- The Rochester City Council has approved one of former Mayor Lovely Warren's last priorities -- an experimental guaranteed basic income program.

It will provide $500 a month for 175 households for each of the next two years.

Funding is coming from the federal American Rescue Plan.

The council vote was unanimous.

And Mayor-elect Malik Evans says he wants to expand the program to as many as 1,000 families.
