State Attorney General Letitia James Calls Out Deceptive Marketing Schemes

State Attorney General Letitia James is calling out deceptive marketing schemes that trap consumers into recurring payments.

She has issued a consumer alert reminding New Yorkers to be careful about a technique known as "negative option marketing."

That's where people can be tricked into ongoing charges for goods and services simply because they didn't know specific action was needed.

She also warned businesses that state law requires most industries to allow consumers who enroll online to cancel online.
