Hilton School Principle Formally Resigns After Child Sexual Abuse Arrest

The school principal in Hilton who's been on leave since his arrest in April for child sexual abuse has formally resigned.

The school board says it has approved a separation agreement to secure Kirk Ashton's resignation.

The agreement includes payments to Ashton for accrued vacation, sick days, and five months of salary.

The board says the alternative was to continue to pay him until he could be fired in a formal proceeding that would have to wait until after a conviction in court.

Ashton is accused of sexually abusing at least two dozen boys in his office at Northwood Elementary School.
