The Rochester City Council has Approved the New City Budget

The Rochester City Council has approved the new city budget.

The vote was 5-to-4. The no votes came from Malik Evans, Mitch Gruber, Jose Peo and Mary Lupien.

The budget includes $5 million to fully fund the hiring of up to 50 investigators and staff at the Police Accountability Board

Director Conor Dwyer Reynolds told 13WHAM the board needed the money, even though the courts have ruled the board can't discipline police officers.

The budget also cuts $4-and-a-half million from the police department -- by moving some functions to other agencies.

There is no change in the tax levy, and Mayor Warren says taxes for businesses and commercial property owners are lower than they were two years ago.
