Supporters Rally in Rochester for Clean Slate Act to be Passed

In Rochester and other cities around the state, groups held rallies yesterday in support the so-called Clean Slate legislation that would automatically seal and expunge old criminal convictions......

The bill would delete felony and misdemeanor criminal records after the convicted person completes the term of their sentence.

The bill has been listed as a priority issue by State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, but the New York State District Attorneys Association opposes it.

Supporters of the bill say it would allow recently released people a chance to restart their lives as previous felonies and misdemeanors can prevent housing and job opportunities.
