Rochester police say officers took four illegal dirt bikes and ATVs off the streets during a crackdown on Monday.
It was prompted by the outcry over two recent deadly dirt bike crashes and the traffic hazards posed by illegal machines in recent weeks.
Police say they plan to run more such operations.
And they say they are working with other area law enforcement agencies to address the dirt bike problem through education, engagement, enforcement and if need be, the seizure of illegal bikes and ATVs.
