Rochester Man Accused of Head-Butting RPD Officer

A Rochester man is facing charges for allegedly head-butting an officer at the end of a tense standoff on Bay Street.

Police had gone there for a 911 call and encountered the man with a knife.

He allegedly pointed the knife at officers and asked them to shoot him.

A supervisor called for the Person in Crisis Team, but the man repeatedly ran at officers with the knife -- even when they backed off.

He finally dropped the knife, but head-butted an officer as he was being arrested.

The officer needed stitches for a large cut.

The man is charged with assault and menacing.
