NY AG: Grand Jury Not Bringing Criminal Charges in Daniel Prude Case

The state Attorney General announced this afternoon that the grand jury has decided not to indict any of the police officers involved in Daniel Prude's death.

James say change is needed to reform the criminal justice system to make it fair and just. She says she will be pushing a multifaceted approach, including legislation, to address policing reforms.

The grand jury was empaneled in the fall to consider possible charges against the Rochester police officers who restrained Prude last March. He became unconscious and his death a week later was called a homicide by the medical examiner.

Prude was being held down by police when he passed out. At the time, he was naked, high on drugs, and his family says he was having a mental health crisis.
