Children are Back in School But Still Get "Grab and Go" Style Meals

Elementary school children are back in class in the Rochester schools, but their lunches are much like the "grab and go" meals they were given while they were away.

The district isn't able to serve hot lunches right now because of budget cuts and staff layoffs in the kitchens.

While the district says the pre-packaged food meets federal nutrition standards, some parents are complaining. The district is looking to rehire staff, but their union says some have taken other jobs.

Students in the upper grades are scheduled to resume in-person classes later this month.
