State Senate Committee Threatens to Subpoena Nursing Home COVID-19 Data

The Chair of the state Senate Committee on Investigations is threatening to subpoena Governor Cuomo’s health commissioner if he doesn't supply key nursing home death numbers.

Downstate Senator James Skoufis says he and other lawmakers have been seeking data for months on how many nursing home residents died in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state health department blames nursing home workers for the spread of COVID in the homes -- but critics blame Cuomo’s order sending people recovering from the virus back to nursing homes to free up hospital beds.

Skoufis is asking to receive the numbers before a scheduled budget hearing on February 3rd.
