A 48-year-old woman is in the Livingston County jail for her phony story about a fire at her home in Leicester.
The Sheriff's Office says Deanna Leach concocted a story that her home and her belongings were a total loss in an attempt to get money. She went so far as to forge the local fire chief's signature on a letter to her boss.
There never was a fire and Leach was charged last week with forgery and related charges.
She has four prior felony convictions and is being held without bail.
