Man Indicted for Shooting of Rochester Police Officer

A man with a long criminal record has been indicted for the shooting last month of a Rochester Police Officer.

The grand jury has charged 54-year-old parole absconder James Hunter with attempted murder, and burglary and weapon charges.

The officer was shot in the neck while checking on a report of a man with a gun trying to get into a home on the city's west side.

Hunter was bitten by a police dog during the manhunt.

He's also accused of injuring an officer with his car in 2019 when he drove away from a traffic stop.
