NYS Education Dept.: Increase in Graduation Rates Statewide

The new numbers from the state education department show an increase in high school graduation rates statewide, and in the Rochester City School District.

Statewide, 84.8 percent of students who began 9th grade in 2016 finished high school in four years. That's up 1.4 percentage points from the cohort that began 9th grade in 2015.

In Rochester the graduation rate rose 5.2 points to 68.2 percent. The gains Buffalo and Syracuse were even larger.

The statewide numbers also show gains for all races, and the gap in graduation rates between whites and minorities also shrank.
