Monroe Co. Executive Rejects Measure on Terms for Newly Elected Officials

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has used his veto power again -- rejecting a measure that would give two-year terms to all legislators elected this year.

He wants lawmakers elected to a one-year term until the new district boundaries are redrawn next year. He also wants the new districts drawn by an independent, citizen-led commission -- not the legislature.

Supporters of the vetoed measure say they have the votes to override the veto. And they say the County Charter gives the responsibility for drawing district boundaries to the Legislature.
