Bill Signed Banning the Sale of So-Called Hate Symbols on State Property

Governor Cuomo has signed a bill banning the sale of so-called hate symbols on state property.

Those could include the Confederate Flag or the Swastika. And the symbols would only be allowed to be displayed if they serve an educational or historical purpose.

Cuomo acknowledged yesterday the new ban might have to be modified to comply with free speech rights in the First Amendment.

His administration may suggest an amendment to lawmakers.
