Activists and Some Democratic Lawmakers Push to Legalize Prostitution

Progressive Democratic lawmakers and some criminal law reform advocates have released a "Justice Roadmap Agenda" for 2021 that includes measures to decriminalize prostitution involving consenting adults.

The coalition says that prostitution arrests "too often results in immigration and housing consequences for New Yorkers."

The Agenda package includes other elements such as decriminalizing the sale and possession of syringes and measures to legalize, regulate and tax the commercial sale and use of recreational marijuana.

The New York State Sheriffs Association and the law makers who oppose the agenda say "The legislators and the governor have to start looking out for the general public and not just the wrongdoers."
