OCSO: Excessive Speed The Cause of a Fatal Crash in Canandaigua

Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson says it was two drivers that were racing each other, led to a deadly crash Tuesday in the Town of Canandaigua.

It happened on Route 332 at the Airport Road intersection.

Authorities say their investigation found that 39-year-old Rachel Pierce was racing a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Jasen Ray on Route 332, and that the two did know each other.

Authorities say Pierce was driving over 90 miles per hour when she slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer after it made a left turn in front of the two southbound vehicles.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, her two passengers, her 13-year-old son and a 17-year-old girl were treated for injuries at the hospital and released.

Ray has been charged with speeding, reckless driving, unauthorized speed contest and providing a false written statement.

Authorities say the tractor trailer driver has found to be not at fault.
