Psychiatrist Sentenced to Prison for Health Care Fraud

Federal prosecutors say a Pittsford psychiatrist will serve 18 months in federal prison after bilking health care programs out of more than $800,000 between 2013 and 2017.

Dr. Muhammad Cheema was convicted on health care fraud charges for submitting some 5,000 false claims to insurance companies for services he never rendered. He created false medical records in an effort to back up his invoices, but was caught by FBI Investigators.

In addition to prison time Dr. Cheema will have to pay back more than $813,000 to the insurance companies and health programs he defrauded.
