A Penfield man has pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges in an African diamond scam.
Federal prosecutors say 55-year-old Brian Schumacher conspired with other people to defraud investors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
During eight months in 2016, they convinced investors to put their money into Schumacher's company, Integra Diamonds.
Integra was then supposed to buy diamonds in Africa with the money.
The first investor was given falsified documents showing he was NOT the first investor.
Schumacher lost money on his diamond purchases, and none of the investors got their promised returns.
