Gov. Cuomo: NYS Gearing Up for Distribution of COVID-19 Vaccine

Governor Cuomo says a coronavirus vaccine is on the way, if the FDA grants emergency use authorization when they meet tomorrow.

Cuomo says if that happens, the vaccine could be shipped to New York State by this weekend. He said the state has already set up 90 regional distribution centers that have the ultra cold storage units capable of keeping the vaccine at the temperature it needs to be at.

The state will get about 170,000 doses of the vaccine. The governor says about 14,500 doses will go to Western NY and just over 11,000 doses will go to our region the Finger Lakes region. The doses are based on the number of nursing home residents and nursing home staff, and the number of high-risk healthcare workers.

Cuomo says Staff at EVERY hospital in the state, regardless of storage capabilities, will have access to the first vaccine allocation.
