RRH and URMC Detailing Plans to Handle a Surge in COVID-19 Cases

The area's two big hospital systems are saying more about their plans to handle the surge in coronavirus cases.

URMC's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Apostolakos, is concerned that the governor might impose a local mandate against elective surgeries.

And Rochester Regional Health's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robert Mayo, says the hospital is able to pay its bills and is in better financial shape than some hospitals around the country.

The two systems currently have a total of 445 COVID patients.

Meanwhile, Monroe County Public Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza again urged people about the need to 'flatten the curve" of surging coronavirus cases.

He says the surge is greater than the spring, and health care workers are tired.
