RCSD Looking at Options to Close $76 Million Budget Deficit

The Rochester City school board is looking at how to close a $76 million deficit in the current budget.

One option could be cutting teaching staff.

Board President Van White acknowledges the deficit is significant. But the head of the teachers union, Adam Urbanski, claims the deficit is not nearly as large as the district says it is. And he believes the district will get more money from the Biden administration.

The state monitor is recommending increasing class sizes -- and that could mean fewer teachers.
