MCSO: Body of Missing Swimmer Identified after Washing Ashore

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is identifying a man whose body washed ashore four months after he went missing while swimming in Lake Ontario.

The Sheriff’s Office says the body of 63-year-old Mark Byrne washed ashore last Saturday near Little Sodus Bay, Wayne County.

He had reportedly gone under while swimming off a boat about a mile north of Seabreeze back in July, and never resurfaced.

Authorities say the investigation into the incident has determined it to be an accidental drowning and there is no indication of anything suspicious regarding the incident.
