Republicans in Two Congressional Races Declare Victory, Others not Called

It may be days or weeks before we know for sure who has won some of the races in our area.

The unprecedented number of absentee ballots won't be counted until later this month.

In the 25th Congressional District, Democratic Congressman Joe Morelle leads Republican George Mitris by 8 percentage points, but Morelle also says he'll wait to see what comes next. Mitris has not conceded. If Morelle wins, it will be his second full term in congress.

Media organizations have declared Republican Congressman Tom Reed the winner over Democrat Tracy Mitrano in the 23rd Congressional District. He declared victory during a Facebook live stream. Reed also defeated Mitrano in 2018.

In the 24th Congressional District, Republican Congressman John Katko leads Democrat Dana Balter by more than 20 points.

And in the 27th District, Republican Congressman Chris Jacobs declared victory. Jacobs has a 2-to-1 lead over Democrat Nate McMurray -- but the race has not been called and McMurray refused to concede. McMurray says many votes still need to be counted.
