Democrats in 55th and 56th State Senate Races Declare Victory

It's not clear if Democrats have expanded their majority in the New York state Senate. But they have declared victory in two local districts that had been held by retiring Republicans.

In the 55th State Senate District, Democrat Samra Brouk declared victory over Republican Christopher Missick. Missick says he will monitor the absentee ballot count, but doesn't expect the result to change.

And in the 56th District, Democrat Jeremy Cooney declared victory over Republican Mike Barry.

Thousands of absentee ballots will be counted later this month, but both Democrats are confident their leads will hold up.

Elsewhere in the state, there are a number of other Senate races that have not been called.
