Former NYS Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno Has Died

Former New York Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno is dead at age 91.

Several Republican leaders in New York have taken to social media posting condolences for the former longtime leader of the State Senate, who represented Rensselaer County for 30-plus years.

Bruno held the top post from 1994 to 2008, and was considered one of the most powerful men in Albany during the Pataki administration.

He was convicted in 2009 on federal corruption charges that were eventually overturned on appeal, and was later fully cleared in a retrial.
